I realize that I haven't done an update on Harrison in a long while. Mostly because a majority of you have seen him over the last two months. But for those of you who haven't (and maybe for some of you who have) here is the latest on his accomplishments and growth.
- Harrison continues to grow like a weed. His last appointment he was still in the 90th percentile for height and the 20th for weight. He looks just like daddy.
- Harrison's favorite words are HI!!! Often said with a big smile and often followed by MaMa or DaDa. BYE is his second favorite word followed with a backwards wave. BeeBee (Bentley), no no no (which includes rapid head shaking), as of recent NO! which means SNOW! Ba which is often used for ball, block and book.
- He continuously signs please as his yes. Thank you, food, milk and juice. We are now teaching him the sign for "I'm sorry."
- He loves TV so we limit it to 10 minutes or so per day. Mostly he likes the routine. Open the TV, sit in his chair grandma got him, drink juice, play with the remote and then close the doors. His favorite shows (those we can play off of Netflix) are Bob the Builder and Wonder Pets.
- He tries his best to feed himself with a spoon and fork. We help him by putting it on the utensil and then he does all the work to get it into his mouth.
- He loves tossing Bentley's ball to Bentley.
- He tries to run but mostly falls when he does.
- He tries to do anything we do. Comb his hair, brush his teeth, type on the computer, put on his clothes etc. He can't do any of it well but it's the effort that counts :)
- He loves books and can point out things like shoes, balls and cars.
- He LOVES food! He is always asking for it and he hates when we feed him child typical food (mac and cheese, grilled cheese, chicken nuggets). He would rather eat whatever we are eating and tends to begin a tantrum when we say no which makes it difficult with spicy food.
- He is still sleeping from 7pm to 7:30am and napping twice a day. We LOVE it!
- He can point out his ears, nose, mouth, head, hair, feet and tummy.
- He loves going outside on our deck especially when there is snow. Sometimes it turns into a meltdown when we say no because it's too cold. Below is a picture from a morning when he brought me his coat, then shoes, then hat and then walked to the sliding glass door and kept pointing. I took this as a sign that he wanted to go outside.
He is enthusiastic about almost everything except for when Mom and Dad leave him with other people. He typically gets to playing 5-10 minutes after we leave though.- He is memorized by older kids, especially ones who can run.
- He loves to sing along. It's more like humming but if he's cranky in the car I'll just turn up the music and he'll start singing. Singing to him also settles him down.
- His first fall down the stairs was about a month ago. I expected him to do his normal routine which was climb down one step to the landing. He lost his balance on the landing and bounced down three or four stairs before he caught himself. He was alright but I was shaken up pretty badly. Now I make him wait until I'm on the stairs before he tries to make it to the landing.
- He does a really good job listening to our requests except for when we want to change his diaper or put him in his pajamas.
- His tantrums are really cute so it's difficult not to laugh. He starts to cry then lays down and puts his face into the carpet and just lies there. Sometimes he kicks and hits the ground but most of the time he just lays there.
- We have started 1-2 minute time outs for not listening or throwing a tantrum for something we have said no to.
- He still gets frustrated easily when he can't do something like finish a puzzle, get a sticker off of a sheet and onto a paper, etc. We encourage him to keep trying and not give up.
- We let him walk in public places every once and a while. Lately he's been listening really well and staying close to us. This is the biggest struggle we have with his new found freedom in walking. Understandably so but we're teaching him to stay close.
- Harrison loves to color (scribble) and put stickers on things.
- The new kitchen he got for Christmas keeps him entertained.
- He brings us everything he has in his hands. Sometimes it's cute, sometimes it wears you down but the greatest thing about it is he never eats anything he shouldn't. He shows us before it goes into his mouth.
- He loves being naked and hates his pajamas. Did I already mention the pajamas?
If I think of anything more I'll let you all know. He is growing so fast now in size, speech, abilities, etc. it's hard to keep up.
One last thing I have to share with all of you. On saturday we were at a friends house who has an 2.5 and 18 month old. The mom, Sarah is a PA. I asked her if their 18 months old was already potty trained and they said they started the "routine"a few weeks ago. they encouraged us to start too. They told us that it will take a long time but that they think the routine would get him used to the feeling. They said to start before he becomes 2 when he'll become more strong willed and possibly resist potty training. So... I decided to try it with Harrison, tonight! She suggested taking him to the toilet after every meal and to just watch the clock. Tonight was the first try and guess what... HE DID IT! Now, this might be luck or it might be the beginning of a beautiful thing! Tomorrow I'll head to the store to find him a little potty seat :) Maybe it's a little premature to mention this but we'll update you to let you know!
So far being parents has been so much fun! Should we be ready for a headache come the next one?
Love you all!
