Harrison is officially six months old! We can't believe it! Time has flown by.
Harrison's six month Dr. appointment was on Monday. It went very well. There are still a few concerns about his development but they told us to come back at 8 months if he hasn't hit a few milestones like sitting on his own and rolling around. He is now 16.9 lbs which is in the 24th percentile so he's skinny, we all know that. He's tall though. He's at 27.5 inches and that's in the 85th percentile. So, he's a growing boy. He takes after his daddy.
The big accomplishment this week, solids! We started him on rice cereal on Thursday. Tomorrow we'll add in some bananas. I'm going to try my best to make babyfood but until I finish the book I'm reading on how to make it, he'll be eating it out of the jar. Did you all know babyfood is REALLY expensive? 89 cents per jar! He'll eat probably a jar a day. We've been surprised how much cereal he wants to eat. I'm so glad he's been nursing for the last six months too. Formula is so expensive. We bought some the other day just to supplement, wow.
Harrison's new thing is to sit up. He doesn't like playing down on the floor very much. He whines when we leave him there for too long. He wants to be in between our legs exploring his toys. He can't sit on his own quit yet. The other day he was balancing himself for about two seconds and then his arms gave out and he jolted forward. It scared him but he was fine, he just needs practice.
Sleeping is an issue right now... His schedule is all off. I think a big part of that is due to inconsistency. When I'm home I have a different parenting style then Nathan, when I'm at work Nathan or Lindsi interact with Harrison differently so I think when he wakes up during the middle of a nap he's wondering will someone come and get me and try to get me back to sleep or will I be left here to figure it out on my own? We also have had a lot going on during the weekends so we have to tote him along. He gets so used to sleeping is his car seat and his schedule being totally off over two days that it takes him a while to get back into the routine. Not much you can do about it though other than just take it day by day and try to do what's best for him.
There are a few things happening that are keeping our minds turning. I was asked to consider a job share with a friend of mine who works in CCU's Master's in Counseling department. Nothing is set in stone yet, the VP hasn't approved of the proposal yet but if it does go through I'll be working two days a week come May or June. My ideal scenario would be for me to stay home full time but I think it's wise that we supplement our income by me working a few days a week. Working at CCU will also pay more than Starbucks or the Gap and the job is a quarter of the stress I currently deal with now. In the long run it will help us save up and pay off our school loans so that I can be home full time in a couple of years.
We are starting a small group for young families at our church in April. We're excited about the opportunity to be in community with others going through the same experiences we are. I think we'll start off by discussing a book that my sister in-law told me about, The Power of the Praying Parent. We look forward to focusing more on how we can pray for Harrison as he grows up in this ever changing world.
Nathan's parents arrive on Tuesday. Their going to spend a day in CSprings and then head up here to hang out with us for a week. We are really looking forward to the company!
Here are a bunch of pictures and there will be videos to follow.
Love you all!
